My Intern Therapist Journey at Changing Tides Counselling

Hello to those of you who are reading this blog post! My name is Madeleine Satov, and I recently completed my student internship at Changing Tides Counselling.

I began my practicum placement in May of 2023, and for the past 8 months I have had the privilege of connecting and learning alongside my community and my fellow team members. I’d like to personally thank my clients for granting me the opportunity to work with you; I’ve learned so much from our shared time together, and I thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey. Throughout our sessions and telephone consultations, as well as support from the Team at Changing Tides Counselling, I feel confident and competent stepping into my role as a psychotherapist!

At the beginning of this journey, I was warmly welcomed to the team by Christina Zahra Keating, Reva Timbers, Rachel Millar, Shannon Silva, and Rachel Keenan. Their ongoing support and guidance, as well as the warm and welcoming atmosphere that each and every one of them provided helped me to feel safe and comfortable stepping into (and out of) my student placement. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to connect with such kind, empathetic and insightful individuals, who consistently offered their knowledge. I’d also like to thank my fellow student intern, Michelle Kelly, who walked alongside me as we navigated our journey as student therapists together. Sharing this experience with another individual undergoing similar challenges and milestones helped to facilitate both personal and professional growth.

I would also like to thank my supervisor, Nichole Caswell, for her continued support. Nichole has been incredibly helpful in guiding me through my experience as a novel therapist by employing an emotional learning process, helping me to build my skills and confidence as a therapist, and facilitating a strong supervisory relationship. Nichole’s knowledge and insights have been incredibly beneficial for my identity development as a therapist, and I look forward to continuing to learn from her.

Although my internship has come to an end, I am excited to continue my journey with Changing Tides Counselling as a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I am excited to continue to learn and grow in this role alongside an incredible team and wonderful community!
